The Goals: Our primary goal was to include traditions of both of our families. Christine’s family follows many Chinese wedding traditions such as the hair combing ceremony the night before the wedding, the tea ceremony in which you offer tea to your elders, and a grand banquet. The Jewish wedding ceremony was performed at the Synagogue and included traditions such as the signing of the Ketubah, use of a Chuppah, Hakafot (bride circles groom seven times), and Birkat Kohanim (breaking of the glass).

We have been together over a decade and overtime have grown to love many things we often keep secret between each other. Our wedding gave us the opportunity to entertain our guests through tastes, sights, and sounds that best represent what we enjoy but that may have not been revealed before.

The Design: We wanted to take our guests along on a rich, passionate, and mysterious journey. We selected colors such as dark purples, silvers, and black. After selecting Circus Juventas at the venue we decided on an overall style reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria.

We began with mysterious invitations, an alluring website, and we shrouded most of the details in secrecy. To set the mood for the ceremony we had used theatrical lighting and had a light up chuppah that mirrored the architecture of the synagogue.

For the reception we knew not only the live performances would get a lot of attention but also the venue structure itself, a large almost industrial permanent Circus tent is stunning to look at. We decided to have theatrical lighting for the performances as well as moving light washes to add depth to the ceiling, walls, and seating area.

We worked with Create Catering to make a menu from scratch with flavors we love (such as Barramundi, Butternut Squash, Pumpkin, and Sushi).

The tables were placed in a way to maximized viewing angles of the performances and easy access to the dance floor. Although dinner was plated we decided to have dessert passed by butlers so that guests would get up to socialize at the bars and make their way to the dance floor.

The Look: We both love classic styles with sleek lines. This was easy to achieve for Jason with a peak lapel tuxedo. To give it the extra touch we found a tuxedo with grosgrain trim and added a covered button dress shirt to complete the James Bond look.

For Christine the challenge was finding and tailoring three evening dresses uk. Multiple dresses is a common Chinese tradition so we found a the perfect sequined red dress that would represent Chinese style of the dynasty era as well as the early 20th Century. For the Ceremony dress she went with a classic Audrey Hepburn look. For the final dress of the night, a fun silvery ball gown.

The bridesmaids wore deep lapis gowns with black cutout necklaces that highlighted their neckline. The Maid of Honor wore black opera gloves.

The Moments: We had the joy of video conferencing Christine’s grandmother into the tea ceremony as she could not fly from Hong Kong due to health reasons.

Stopping at our house to take pictures with our twin bunnies, Rev and Axela, was the most memorable moment of the weekend.

Our greatest success was hiring Anna Senrick from Fete Perfection. She was absolutely brilliant at understanding and helping us find the perfect vendors. She thoroughly organized and managed a wedding with a reception venue that had not only never hosted a wedding before but included intricate live performances.

Vera Wang Reportedly Charging Chinese Customers $500 to Try On Wedding Dresses

If you’re shopping for Vera Wang wedding dresses in Shanghai, you’d better be damn sure you want to walk down the aisle in a Vera Wang wedding dress uk.

A new policy at the iconic wedding dress designer‘s brand new first ever Shanghai flagship has, understandably, been met with controversy. It reportedly requires that customers put down 3,000 yuan ($482) just to try on a dress, which they have a limited time of 90 minutes to do. It acts as a deposit–if the customer buys the dress, it’s deducted from the total cost. If not, the money’s lost.

According to the original report in Global Times, this is the only Vera Wang store that imposes this rule, meaning Wang’s Chinese customers are being treated differently than Vera Wang customers in other locations. Um, explanation please?

The Global Times cites a Vera Wang cheap party dresses release stating, essentially, that the policy is in place to prevent copyright infringement, meaning the company likely has reason to be concerned about faux customers coming in with the intention of copying Vera Wang designs. As we’ve learned, the majority of design piracy is taking place in China.

The situation recalls last year’s Dolce & Gabbana controversy–the brand infamously banned onlookers from snapping photos of the exterior of its Hong Kong store, claiming it was trying to protect intellectual property. Reports alleged that only Hong Kong locals were stopped, while foreigners and mainland Chinese tourists were welcome to snap as they pleased. The discriminatory policy incited outrage and full-on protests.

It’s also not the only instance of bridal stores charging customers to try on dresses–a Telegraph Australia article from 2008 details bridal shops in Australia that have done the same to deter women who just want to try on wedding dresses for fun.

One thing that maybe makes Vera Wang’s case different is that Wang is first generation Chinese American and her parents were born in Shanghai. Shanghaiist, a Shanghai-based blog, goes so far as to call this fact “the very worst part.”

Shanghaiist also asserts that many consider Chinese customers to be “unsophisticated” and that luxury brands are taking advantage of them–”doing their utmost to squeeze every last drop out of” their wallets and that, “While brides are bribed with wine and flattery in her other flagships around the world, she’s expecting the brides to bribe her in China.” And despite the fees, the site reports that “the store has gained a large number of visitors, with brides booking months in advance to try on dresses and be taken advantage of.”

Perhaps there is something to that exclusivity trend?

We’ve reached out to Vera Wang and will report back if we learn more.

Prom Dresses

As prom season is in full swing, there are a couple of procrastinators out there who still haven’t found the perfect cheap party dresses. With three weeks until East Meck’s prom, the pressures on to find a dress. Believe it or not, there are tons of websites that provide the best selection of prom dresses. The Windsor Store, which specializes in both teen clothing and prom dresses, has become a favorite of mine, personally.

I first discovered Windsor from beauty guru MeghanRosette on YouTube back in the summer who bought hauled some of their summer collection.  When the time came to shop for a dress, I just so happened to look on Windsor and saw that they had an entire section dedicated to prom dresses. To be honest, some of the dresses are a hit or miss. But with much research and a little time, it’s possible to find that perfect dress.

Most of the dresses go along with the current spring tread which is bright colors and pastels. These colors aren’t only perfect for spring, but also for prom. If you’re looking for a simple dress with nothing “extra “on it, then I’d go with the Eliana-Sage Single Shoulder Dress. The dress is jade with a mermaid style fit, with a silver embellishment on the shoulder. Although the dress is simple, this gives you the chance to go all out and make a strong statement with the jewelry.

If you’re looking for a mix of both simple and sparkle, then the Benson-Blue prom dresses uk is the one for you.  The dress is composed of a beautiful royal blue color that will flatter any skin tone as well as a bedazzladed embellishment around the waist and covering the back. The style is a perfect combination if you don’t want to be too plain or too overboard.  The jewelry could go wither way also since the dress doesn’t have much detail to it.

The last dress is for the people who love tons of sparkle and glam, which is the Ingrid-Rose Gold Dress. With a halter neck style and a mermaid fit, this dress comes in both a rose gold color and mint green. Pairing the dress with simple heels and earrings would allow the attention to be focused on the dress. Definitely a favorite for me!

Windsor is the perfect place to find your last minute prom dress, and you’re almost guaranteed that you won’t show up to prom with the same dress (yikes!). With affordable prices, free shipping, and a great selection, Windsor is a great website for your perfect dress.

Traditional Celtic Wedding Dresses

If you or your partner are of Irish decent, or you simply fancy an Irish themed wedding, then you may want to consider having a traditional Celtic wedding dress. Celtic dresses pose as a true testament of individuality and greatly honour Irish traditions in all their glory.

Medieval Gowns

Many Celtic themed a line wedding dresses originate from medieval roots; these dresses are hard to find in normal wedding stores so it may be that you have to have one hand made. This can prove to be pricey, however you have the guarantee that your dress will be individual and unique.  A plus point of having your gown handmade is that you can have it custom fitted to your figure, creating a stunning look that can’t be replicated with a standard wedding dress. Many people use Celtic gowns as a sign of heritage, embracing the roots from which their family came from. Scottish weddings often carry the same principle, with the groom and best man wearing kilts to honour their past, and future.

Wedding Dress Designs

Celtic wedding dresses are usually based around a long flowing design; sometimes embroidery is integrated into the dress to create a true Celtic style. The embroidery is usually gold, with the dress being white. Other dresses use deep reds to add that extra boost of colour.  Celtic wedding dresses often have drapes to cover the arms, giving that vintage feel that many brides desire.

Themed Weddings

You do not need a traditional dress to have an Irish themed wedding. For instance, some couples use wedding rings with Celtic knot designs engraved onto the ring. According to Irish folklore, the luckiest day to get married is on New Year’s Eve, so you may wish to incorporate this into your special day. The dress would traditionally be made out of blue material, however as times have changed white dresses with coloured lace are becoming more common among Irish brides.

Unity candles are also of Irish descent. A single candle lies upon the altar, while the bride and groom both take their individual candles and light the unity candle together, symbolising the joining of man and wife. This is a great idea to incorporate into your wedding, and it can make it more romantic as you can have the unity candles as well as the exchanging of rings, making it a more memorable day.

While reciting the vows, another tradition is that the hand of the bride is bound to the hand of the groom with ribbon or lace. This physical joining of hands is a practice that is still commonly used today. The ribbon is then removed after the vows have been read.

Whatever you choose to do with your wedding, make sure that all your evening dresses uk are agreed upon and will make the big day more magical. There are many resources online for things like wedding dresses, why not have a look around and see what you can find.

Mother of the Bride dress- Anthropologie

I want to start by saying i am in NO way form or fashion being compensated by Anthropologie for what i’m about to write here. They have no clue who i am much but i just want everyone to know how happy i am with them. A week ago today when my phone fried and i had to go to Apple store, i got there before my appointment and Apple told me to leave and come back at my appointed time.  SO, 2 doors down was an Anthropologie store. The only good part that came from that night!  My sweet little Mom lives in very remote Montana and there are seriously no stores but Walmart and Three Bears grocery store.  Dallas has the best shopping so i told her i would be on the lookout for a dress to wear to my wedding. My wedding is in August so we all  know its going to be brutally hot. My goal was to find something sleek and elegant but also comfortable and cool.

I was in the store ot 5 minutes when i saw mermaid wedding dresses! My colors for the wedding are Orange and Silver so i was looking at anything in the Coral or Gray family but really anything that caught my attention. I find this nice very pale gray accordion dress that is tea-length and has built in slip. Its that perfect dress that you can really dress up or even slap on some cute sandals and dress down.

My true concern though is the return policy.  Mom lives on the base of a mountain with no real address so UPS is out of the question. She has a PO BoX that i have to send postal. I was talking out loud when i saw this dress- like OMG this is perfect! I was holding it up and when the sales girl came by asked if i wanted to try it on and if i needed any help. I asked what their return policy was and almost fell over when she told me. The return policy is so AMAZINGLY flexible. They have a store member club card called the Anthro club. Once you sign up for that, you get a little card for your keychain. The best part is that every purchase is recorded under your club number and its on file in case you lose your receipt. WHAT?! How cool!

To be able to send to my mom in Montana , let her try cheap party dresses on and have her send back to me is so refreshing that there’s no rush end date.  Now the best part is that i sent to Mom priority and she got it on Tuesday of this week. It fits her perfect and she absolutely loves it so i need not worry about any return policy.  She is so cute because when she called me to tell me she received the dress, she said “i’ve tried it on 3 times already because it makes me feel beautiful”.  She said it fits like it was tailor made by her.  Now all that is left to complete her outfit is some shoes and some cute accessories. I’m thinking one of those trendy bib necklaces that is so popular right now. We shall see.

Here is the dress off the website but it is so much prettier in person.
