A Cambie Wedding Dress!

While I’m showcasing some of the amazing things people have made with Sewaholic Patterns, I had to include this one – a Cambie wedding dresses uk!

cambie wedding dress

This beautiful dress was sewn and worn by Gemini for her wedding last year. Isn’t it striking? I love the bright purple colour, if you’re going to be non-traditional why not pick an amazing colour like purple?

Click here to see more photos on her blog and to read about how she decided on her wedding dress. I like this second photo, she looks so relaxed! That’s what a good dress can do for you. (Plus, imagine the practicality of having a wedding dress with pockets in it – brilliant!)

I’m so flattered that a pattern I designed was chosen to be part of her special day. I design patterns thinking that you guys might like them, I always design things that I would want to wear cheap party dresses, but never in my wildest dreams did I think that people would choose my pattern for something as important as a wedding dress. The Cambie is more versatile than I ever dreamed it could be!

(I know there is at least one other wedding Cambie planned – hello Becky! You can see a bit of it here but the dress hasn’t had its final reveal yet.)

Thanks Gemini for letting me share your photos! Congratulations and best wishes for the start of your new married life!

Wedding Dress Shopping!

My little sister is getting married!!! She got engaged a few weeks ago and already planned most of the wedding for August 17, 2013!  Geez, hike up your pants and get ready. Because this wedding is coming fast!
I flew out to Indiana where she lives to go wedding dresses uk shopping with her and my mom. She had to find her dress extremely quickly so we basically booked the next flight out and just went.  Sweet friends back home watched the boys while Luke worked, so miraculously everything worked out.
We started at one shop, but ended up going to two shops before we found ‘the’ dress.

And we started pretty early that morning, so Starbucks helped evening dresses uk our butts into wedding dress shape.

She’s so excited!!

Don’t you worry, none of these are really ‘the’ dress.  That, of course, will not be shown to a soul other than close family.

We went around the entire store and probably picked out one hundred dresses for her to try on. Poor Mallory.

She didn’t like the feather clip.  Too chicken-y she said.

And this was the final shop where ‘the’ dress was found!!  This was such a classy, wonderful shop and it was amazing they had the dress she fell in love with in stock and ready to be altered for her two-month-away-wedding.

Congrats Malie and Zach!! I can’t wait until the big day!

Regardless of your choice of wedding dresses uk make sure that it fits perfectly and flatters you well.  Sometimes referred to as club wear, party dresses should reveal just enough while still remaining classy, Accentuation of your hips, cleavage and buttocks can all be provided by a carefully selected dress. Party dresses can be extremely versatile, yet most are quite flashy and not suited to anything other than a special event or night out. DIY Farm Wedding for £800: Jon & Alex

I am always so incredibly inspired when I see weddings where the budget was small. Far from it seeming like the couple had to make compromises, the ones I get to share always seem to prove that a small budget doesn’t have to mean a budget-looking junior bridesmaid dresses. In my opinion it is actually often the weddings with the smaller budgets that seem to have the most heart, the most personal details and the most inspiring ideas.

Jon and Alex had a budget of £2000 for their wedding but wait for it… only spent £800! A big reason for this was that the wedding was held on the bride’s parent’s farm and they helped out with the cost of the marquee. Their professional photographer was a friend (always handy!) which also clearly saved them a big chunk of change. They decided not to have any flowers, Alex’s sister in law made some cupcakes and her mother did all the catering. Instead of hiring an expensive wedding car Alex drove herself to the wedding in her own Ford Fiesta!

“I just find weddings and the traditional style so incredibly dull”, Alex replied when I asked her about their non-traditional approach. “I have always been amazed how such a wide variety of people always choose a traditional wedding and everyone ends up with the same stuff. I wanted something that was simple and encapsulated us. We had loads of multi-coloured bunting that I had made. It was fun but took hours! We also had lots of bright pompoms made from tissue paper and hung them in coloured sections to match the coloured sections of the bunting. We had fairy lights for ambience. We decorated the tables for lunch with my mum’s lovely lace and embroidered tablecloths, and we even had a 100 year old Victorian bedspread laid out in middle of the marquee! On the tables we had spray painted wine bottles with feathers in and tea lights in jam jars everywhere.”

Alex spent ages hunting around London for the perfect wedding dresses uk, but in the end found the one she went for in a very surprising place! “My friend (who was also our photographer) Ashlee, is a massive The Only Way is Essex fan and one day she dragged me into Amy Child’s shop. To my amazement I saw this lovely dress amidst the tarty outfits and just thought, I want that! The best thing was it only cost £69 – the most money I have ever spent on a dress or item of clothing ever!”

“My favourite part of the wedding was that it was at my parent’s farm”, she concluded. “We had our pigmy goats and geese wandering round. We also spent our wedding night in a gypsy caravan which was located on the farm and my dad had made a few years before. It was decked out with a really kitsch interior, such as gingham curtains and a veranda where we drank some champers. I was also happy that some of the guests and my family went for a walk down the cliffs in the middle of the day and saw some baby seals in the cove. Magical!”
